In April 2011, mother and daughter founded the animal rescue community. They wanted to create an animal shelter, where any animal: a cat or a dog, a rabbit or a horse, a cow or even an otter could always receive help and care. Thus, the future «Ķepu-Ķepā» shelter was created not far the city of Jelgava in Latvia..
In May 2011, the shelter already had 25 dogs, 20 cats and 6 members of the community as its inhabitans. Though the next year some community members had left the shelter, it did not stop working and has since increased not only in the numbers of its animals, but also in the variety: cats and dogs are the species you can find in any shelter, but horses, cows, goats, chickens, pheasants and an otter can only be found where the people truly love animals.
Today, «Ķepu-Ķepā» continues to work by the virtue of the unbreakable will, passion for their work, devotion and the work of its founders, volunteers, family members and friends. The attitude and hard work of the shelter can be summed up in their motto: “Let all the four-legged have a warm home, a full stomach and loving owners!”
On the camera, you can see the dog walking area (10×12 meters), where the dogs are playing with each other and running around almost every day. School trips are common to stop by in the shelter to provide help or walk the dogs, so tune in once in a while and you’ll definitely have fun watching both kids and dogs!
The «Ķepu-Ķepā» shelter is very remote and is not as well-known as the other Latvian shelters such as “Ulubele” or “Labās Mājas”. Due to that, the shelter always needs your help.
